RetourMatras is a Netherlands-based recycling company specializing in end-of-life mattress collection, dismantling, and polyurethane (PU) foam recovery. The company operates facilities in the Netherlands and serves the wider Benelux region, mechanically separating steel, textiles, and foam to maximize material reuse and secondary feedstocks.
Working with technology partners such as H&S Anlagentechnik, RetourMatras employs depolymerization to convert discarded PU foam into recycled polyols that can be used in new flexible polyurethane foams. An industrial reactor plant in Lelystad (Flevoland) is designed to process foam equivalent to roughly 200,000 mattresses per year, complementing dismantling operations reported at up to about 1.5 million mattresses annually in the Netherlands and Belgium. The company collaborates with downstream users, including IKEA Retail, to enable circular procurement of materials and to reduce waste flows. Through these activities, RetourMatras supplies secondary raw materials to the polyurethane value chain and supports European objectives to divert mattresses from landfill and increase recycling rates.
