Formerly The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), it was rebranded in March 2025 following its acquisition by Renaissance Africa Energy Holding Limited, a consortium of Nigerian independents (ND Western Limited, Aradel Holdings Plc, Waltersmith Group, FIRST Exploration and Petroleum Development Company Limited) and international partner Petrolin Trading Limited. The company operates Nigeria’s largest upstream joint venture on behalf of partners Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC, 55%), Renaissance (30%), TotalEnergies Limited (10%), and Agip Energy and Natural Resources (Nigeria) Limited (AENR, 5%).

Headquartered in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Renaissance manages 18 oil mining leases across onshore, swamp, and shallow-water terrains in the Niger Delta. It operates critical infrastructure including the Bonny and Forcados export terminals and the Sea Eagle FPSO vessel. Core activities encompass crude oil and gas production, exploration drilling, field development, gas commercialization, and infrastructure rehabilitation, with a focus on sustainable operations, local content, and flare reduction.

The company has rapidly increased output since assuming operatorship and aims to reach one million barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2030 while pursuing pan-African expansion. Recognized by Wood Mackenzie as Africa’s leading independent oil and gas producer, Renaissance positions itself as an indigenous leader advancing energy security and industrialization across the continent.
