Qatar Aluminium Limited (Qatalum) is a primary aluminium smelter located in Mesaieed Industrial City, Qatar, approximately 40 km south of Doha. Established as a joint venture equally owned by Qatar Aluminium Manufacturing Company (QAMCO), a subsidiary of QatarEnergy, and Hydro Aluminium, a subsidiary of Norsk Hydro ASA, the facility was inaugurated in 2010 at a cost of about $5.7 billion, marking it as the largest single-launch aluminium plant at the time.
The fully integrated site includes a smelter, casthouse, carbon plant, port, storage facilities, and a dedicated natural gas-fired power plant. Qatalum produces over 600,000 metric tons of high-quality primary aluminium annually, primarily value-added extrusion ingots, billets, and foundry alloy ingots for global markets in automotive, construction, engineering, and consumer goods sectors.
Recognized for operational efficiency and environmental performance, Qatalum employs state-of-the-art technology to minimize energy use and emissions, aligning with sustainability goals under its 'Qatalum Way' philosophy.
