Pyrocell is a Swedish producer of bio-based pyrolysis oil made from forestry and sawmill residues. Established as a joint venture between Setra Group and Preem, the company operates a fast pyrolysis facility in Gävle, Sweden, adjacent to existing wood-processing operations.
Pyrocell’s process converts dry biomass such as sawdust into a liquid pyrolysis oil that can be co-processed at refineries to produce renewable diesel and gasoline, and can serve as a feedstock for other industrial applications. By linking sawmill side-streams with downstream fuel upgrading, the company supports lower fossil content in transport fuels and more efficient use of forest resources.
