Petroquiriquire S.A. is a Venezuelan mixed company specializing in the upstream oil and gas sector, focusing on the exploration, production, collection, and initial processing of hydrocarbons.
Established in 2006, it operates as a joint venture with 60% ownership held by Corporación Venezolana del Petróleo (CVP), a subsidiary of the state-owned Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA), and 40% by the Spanish energy company Repsol S.A.
The company primarily conducts its activities in the states of Monagas and Zulia in Venezuela. It manages key assets including the Quiriquire oil and gas field in the Maturín basin, as well as the Mene Grande and Barúa-Motatán fields. Recent expansions have incorporated additional areas such as Tomoporo and La Ceiba to boost output of light and semi-light crude.
Production has historically ranged from approximately 20,000 to 40,000 barrels per day of crude oil, with associated gas production, and ongoing agreements aim to significantly increase these figures through investments estimated at hundreds of millions of dollars.
As part of Venezuela's framework for mixed enterprises in the hydrocarbons industry, Petroquiriquire plays a role in the national effort to develop and recover oil production capacity, leveraging international partnership for operational expertise while maintaining majority state control.
