Norges Bank is the central bank of Norway. It sets monetary policy to maintain price stability, promotes financial stability, issues and manages the Norwegian krone (NOK), oversees key payment and settlement systems, manages Norway’s foreign exchange reserves, and serves as lender of last resort to the financial system.
Through Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM), it manages the Government Pension Fund Global—one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds—with a diversified, long‑term portfolio spanning global equities, fixed income, real estate, and unlisted renewable energy infrastructure. Investment activities follow ethical guidelines set by Norwegian authorities, including company exclusions and active ownership on governance, climate, and other sustainability matters. As a major institutional investor, NBIM’s holdings often include large, publicly listed companies across industrial and chemical value chains, making Norges Bank a significant financial stakeholder in sectors relevant to the chemical industry.
