Its role Owner
Map Ta Phut City Municipality is a local government authority (thesaban nakhon) in Rayong Province, Thailand, responsible for municipal administration, public services, infrastructure development, and environmental management in the Map Ta Phut area.
The municipality oversees an area of approximately 165 square kilometers that includes significant portions of Thailand's largest industrial estate, the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, home to petrochemical, chemical, and energy facilities. It provides essential services including waste management, public health, education support, urban planning, and community welfare programs to a population exceeding 70,000 residents.
In addition to standard local governance, the municipality actively participates in sustainability initiatives, partnering with industrial companies on projects such as waste recycling networks, community environmental programs, and innovations in processing agricultural residues like coconut shells into biochar for soil improvement and carbon sequestration. These efforts support Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor development while addressing environmental challenges in a heavily industrialized zone.
As a public body under Thailand's Ministry of Interior, it operates independently of private industry but collaborates closely with companies and government agencies to promote balanced economic growth, community quality of life, and ecological responsibility in one of the country's key industrial hubs.
