About KNPS

The Korea National Park Service (KNPS; 국립공원공단) is a government-affiliated agency under South Korea’s Ministry of Environment responsible for managing the nation’s terrestrial and marine national parks. Its mandate includes conserving biodiversity and habitats, maintaining park infrastructure, providing visitor and safety services, conducting environmental monitoring and research, and implementing restoration and risk management within protected areas.

KNPS undertakes programs in ecological restoration, marine and coastal habitat protection, invasive-species control, and reduction of waste and pollution in sensitive ecosystems. It collaborates with municipalities, academia, NGOs, and companies on conservation and sustainability initiatives, and supports national climate and biodiversity objectives. Through these activities, the agency helps safeguard ecosystems and water quality in areas where protected environments interface with human activity and industry.
