Its core activities encompass geological and geophysical studies, technological innovation, digitalization of production processes, and efficiency improvements to increase recoverable reserves and reduce operating costs. The firm maintains specialized competence centers and laboratories, notably the hydrogen technologies research laboratory at the Atyrau branch, which has developed Kazakhstan’s first titanium-iron metal hydride alloys for safe, ambient-temperature hydrogen storage.

In May 2026, the Atyrau branch commissioned the country’s first full-cycle green hydrogen pilot facility, combining a 200 kW solar power plant with a containerized electrolyzer for on-site hydrogen production and use in heating and power supply. The same event hosted the IV International Hydrogen Energy Workshop, where the Digital Hydrogen Atlas—a geospatial tool mapping water resources, renewable energy potential, and hydrogen production costs across western Kazakhstan regions—was presented.

Operating under KMG’s Low-Carbon Development Programme and aligned with Kazakhstan’s 2060 carbon neutrality strategy, KMG Engineering serves as a key center of competence advancing hydrogen energy, renewable integration, and engineering solutions within the national energy sector.
