Established in 1999 as a joint venture between Arab Potash Company (APC) and Albemarle Holdings Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of US-based Albemarle Corporation), the company operates as a 50-50 partnership that combines local access to Dead Sea resources with global specialty chemicals expertise.
Primary manufacturing facilities are located in Safi on the southeastern shore of the Dead Sea, with storage and export infrastructure at the Port of Aqaba. JBC processes bromide-enriched brine, a byproduct of APC's potash operations, into elemental bromine and derivatives including sodium bromide, calcium bromide, hydrogen bromide, tetrabromobisphenol-A (TBBPA), and potassium hydroxide. These products support applications in flame retardants, oil and gas drilling fluids, water treatment, pharmaceuticals, chemical synthesis, and other industrial sectors.
JBC exports to more than 30 countries across the Middle East, Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific, positioning it as the world's second-largest bromine producer. The company holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications and was the first in Jordan authorized to export bromine products to Europe. It employs several hundred people, contributes substantially to Jordan's economy via exports and local procurement, and invests in sustainability initiatives and community programs in the Southern Jordan Valley.
