Iren S.p.A.

Iren S.p.A. (Iren) is an Italian multi-utility group active in electricity and heat generation, gas distribution and sales, district heating, integrated water services, and environmental services. Operating mainly in northwestern Italy (Piedmont, Liguria, Emilia‑Romagna), the group includes subsidiaries such as Iren Ambiente (environmental services), Ireti (networks), and Iren Energia (generation). Iren is listed on the Borsa Italiana.

For the chemical and process industries, Iren’s relevant activities include operation of waste-to-energy plants, material recovery and plastics sorting/recycling facilities, composting and anaerobic digestion units producing biogas/biomethane, and wastewater collection and treatment infrastructure. Its cogeneration assets and district heating networks supply electricity, heat and, in some cases, steam to municipalities and industrial users. The group also manages the collection, treatment, and disposal of municipal and selected special/industrial wastes, and develops circular-economy projects aimed at increasing recovery of secondary raw materials.
