About IRCAI

International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI) is a global center dedicated to advancing artificial intelligence in support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Established in 2020 and hosted by the Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana, Slovenia, it operates as a UNESCO Category 2 centre. IRCAI coordinates research, evaluation, and policy initiatives; develops and curates datasets and tools; and supports capacity building, ethics, and governance frameworks for responsible AI adoption across sectors.

For the chemical and process industries, IRCAI’s work is relevant to applications such as process optimization, predictive maintenance, materials discovery, energy efficiency, emissions monitoring, circular economy solutions, and safety and risk assessment. The centre convenes interdisciplinary stakeholders, publishes assessments and best practices, and fosters collaborations to translate AI research into practical, societally beneficial solutions.
