IBU-tec advanced materials AG is a publicly listed German specialist in thermal process engineering and the development and production of specialty materials. Headquartered in Weimar, Germany, the company operates additional production sites in Bitterfeld-Wolfen and maintains the subsidiary BNT Chemicals GmbH, which focuses on organometallics and related products. The IBU-tec Group runs four locations equipped with sixteen rotary kilns, eight pulsation reactors, and modern laboratories serving customers worldwide.

Core activities encompass the full value chain from laboratory-scale material and process development through pilot trials to industrial-scale toll manufacturing. Expertise covers thermal treatments including calcination, drying, granulation, and thermal shock processing for applications in the chemical, pharmaceutical, coatings, and automotive sectors. The company also manufactures its own high-quality powder products, notably the IBUvolt® range of LFP cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries.

IBU-tec is advancing construction of a major new LFP production facility at Bitterfeld-Wolfen with an annual capacity of approximately 15,000 tonnes, scheduled to begin operations in 2028. This plant, the first of its kind on an industrial scale in Europe, uses a proprietary process independent of Chinese technology and with significantly lower energy consumption. Production is backed by comprehensive development and long-term supply contracts with PowerCo SE, Volkswagen’s battery subsidiary, which has secured the entire output for ten years. The group employs around 230 people and is positioned as a leading European contributor to sustainable battery material supply chains.
