International Biochar Asia Pacific Trade Association (IBAP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing biochar education, research, and practical applications across the Asia-Pacific region. It functions as a collaborative platform connecting practitioners, researchers, institutions, and industry stakeholders to promote sustainable uses of biochar produced from biomass waste through pyrolysis.
IBAP organizes webinars, Biochar Talks, short courses, and hands-on events, often in partnership with the International Biochar Initiative (IBI), Kasetsart University, and other entities. Key topics include biochar production technologies, soil health improvement, carbon sequestration, bioremediation, drought tolerance in crops, and nature-based solutions for disaster risk reduction such as flood and landslide mitigation.
Primarily based in Thailand with regional operations in Southeast Asia, IBAP supports projects involving agricultural residues like rice husks and coconut shells. It collaborates on initiatives with companies such as SCG for industrial-scale production and applications in agriculture, concrete additives, and road base materials, contributing to waste valorization and climate resilience.
As a non-profit trade association, IBAP has no commercial ownership structure and focuses on knowledge exchange, capacity building, and scaling biochar adoption to support circular economy principles and net-zero targets. It maintains resources via its website, social media, and events to foster a growing network in the biochar sector.
