The Hospital Universitario de Navarra (HUN) is a leading public research hospital and the primary reference center for specialized healthcare in the autonomous community of Navarra, Spain. It provides general hospital services to the Pamplona health area serving over 500,000 residents and functions as a tertiary referral facility for the entire region and occasionally neighboring communities, with unique specialties including vascular and thoracic surgery and neurosurgery.
Established in 2010 as the Complejo Hospitalario de Navarra through the merger of historic sites such as the former Hospital de Navarra, Hospital Virgen del Camino, and Clínica Ubarmin, it received university hospital status in 2018. The institution operates as part of the Servicio Navarro de Salud-Osasunbidea (SNS-O) public health network, with multiple campuses offering approximately 1,100 beds, 38 operating rooms, advanced imaging and radiotherapy equipment, and extensive outpatient and diagnostic services.
In addition to patient care, HUN emphasizes teaching and biomedical research. It maintains affiliations with the Universidad Pública de Navarra and Universidad de Navarra for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and is integrated into the Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria de Navarra (IdiSNA). The hospital actively participates in clinical trials across specialties, including oncology, as evidenced by its role as an investigator site in studies of investigational therapies for metastatic colorectal cancer. In February 2026, it was designated a Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC-HUN) by the European EUnetCCC network.
With a workforce exceeding 9,000 professionals, HUN contributes to innovation in the Spanish public healthcare system through translational research, training programs, and high-volume clinical activity while maintaining a focus on accessible, integrated, and sustainable care.
Also known as Nafarroako Ospitale Unibertsitarioa (NOU) and Complejo Hospitalario de Navarra (CHN).
