Hyundai-SK Battery Manufacturing America (HSBMA) is a joint venture company that manufactures lithium-ion battery cells for electric vehicles at its facility in Kingston, Georgia, United States.
The company operates as a 50/50 partnership between Hyundai Motor Group and SK On, with a total investment of approximately $5 billion. It produces high-performance EV battery cells using SK On's advanced battery technology at an annual capacity of 35 gigawatt-hours, sufficient to power around 300,000 electric vehicles.
The plant, spanning millions of square feet, began commercial production in June 2026 and supplies cells primarily to Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Savannah, Georgia. These cells are assembled into packs by Hyundai Mobis for use in Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis electric vehicles manufactured in the United States.
HSBMA employs approximately 3,500 workers and forms a key part of the localized North American EV supply chain, complementing SK On's other U.S. battery operations. The project received significant state incentives from Georgia and supports the broader electrification strategies of its parent entities in the competitive global battery and automotive industries.
