Its role Owner
HL-GA Battery Company LLC operates as a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution, focusing on the production of lithium-ion battery cells for electric vehicles. The company is headquartered in Ellabell, Georgia, United States, on the site of the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America, where it is constructing a major manufacturing facility.
The plant features a planned annual capacity of 30 GWh, sufficient to equip approximately 300,000 electric vehicles per year with advanced battery cells. These cells will primarily supply Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis electric vehicle production at facilities across North America, including plants in Alabama and Georgia, supporting the regional EV supply chain.
Announced in 2023 with a committed investment exceeding $4.3 billion and equal 50% ownership by each partner, the project ranks among the largest industrial developments in Georgia history. Construction commenced that year, with production targeted for late 2025 or early 2026. The venture builds on the partners' long-standing collaboration in electrification, including prior joint battery production in Indonesia.
As a dedicated cell manufacturer, HL-GA Battery Company emphasizes next-generation battery technologies, sustainability, and local job creation to advance the North American transition to electric mobility and strengthen domestic energy storage capabilities in the automotive sector.
