The facility liquefies hydrogen produced by Olin, primarily as a by-product from its chlorine production processes, which is then purified and liquefied using technology from Plug Power. This output supports Plug Power's broader hydrogen supply network across North America, serving customers in material handling, mobility, and industrial sectors, including major retailers like Amazon and Walmart.

As a 50/50 joint venture, Hidrogenii combines Olin's industrial expertise in chemical production with Plug Power's leadership in hydrogen fuel cell technology and infrastructure. The plant, commissioned in April 2025, is among the largest electrolytic hydrogen liquefaction facilities in North America and contributes to a combined production capacity of 40 tons per day when including other Plug sites in Georgia and Tennessee.

Hidrogenii plays a key role in advancing the U.S. hydrogen economy by providing reliable, domestically sourced liquid hydrogen, enhancing energy security, and supporting decarbonization efforts in various industries. The company is headquartered in St. Gabriel, Louisiana, with operations focused on sustainable hydrogen production and distribution.
