Hebei Shoulang New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. is a Chinese company specializing in carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) through gas fermentation technology. It operates the world’s first commercial-scale industrial facility that converts waste gases from steel production, primarily carbon monoxide, into ethanol and microbial protein using patented gas fermentation processes licensed from LanzaTech.
The company’s main facility is located in the Caofeidian Industrial Zone of Tangshan City, Hebei Province, China, adjacent to Shougang Jingtang United Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. It processes approximately 360 million standard cubic meters of industrial off-gases annually to produce around 45,000–60,000 tons of fuel-grade ethanol and several thousand tons of microbial protein feed. The ethanol serves markets including road transport fuel, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) feedstock, marine fuels, and chemical applications, while the protein is used as a novel feed ingredient.
Hebei Shoulang is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Beijing Shougang LanzaTech Technology Co., Ltd. (SGLT, listed on HKEX as 02553.HK), a joint venture involving Shougang Group, LanzaTech, and other investors. The parent company develops and deploys the technology across multiple sites in China. Hebei Shoulang holds numerous patents, has received certifications including RSB and the world’s first ISCC EU Recycled Carbon Fuel (RCF) producer certification for its ethanol, and is recognized as a national high-tech enterprise and green factory. It plays a pioneering role in the global CCUS and low-carbon fuels industry by demonstrating scalable, commercial bio-fermentation of industrial emissions.
