Gen2 Energy AS

About Gen2 Energy

Gen2 Energy AS is a Norwegian company headquartered in Borre, focused on developing, constructing, owning, and operating large-scale green hydrogen production facilities. Founded in 2019, it leverages Norway's abundant surplus renewable energy from hydropower and wind, along with plentiful fresh water, to produce clean hydrogen via electrolysis for markets in Norway and Europe.

The company aims to build an integrated zero-emission value chain, including liquefaction for efficient distribution, targeting industrial-scale output with projects in areas like Nordland (Nesbruket 195 MW), Åfjord, Mosjøen, and Farsund. These sites utilize trapped renewable power that would otherwise go unused, enabling cost-competitive production.

In May 2026, Gen2 Energy's Gen2-LH2 project (12 MW electrolyser) was selected in the European Commission's third Hydrogen Bank auction under the maritime-aviation category, securing approximately €62 million in Innovation Fund support for 17,886 tonnes of renewable hydrogen over 10 years at a premium of €3.48/kg.

Privately held by HYCAP Group, Piney Point, and founders, Gen2 Energy supports the transition to sustainable energy in sectors like maritime and industry.
