The Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML is a research institute of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V. It is headquartered in Dortmund, Germany, with additional locations in Frankfurt, Hamburg, Prien and Shanghai. Founded in 1981, the institute employs around 400 research associates and focuses on integrated logistics research across internal and external operations.
Its work covers material flow technology, warehouse management, business process modeling, simulation-based planning, traffic systems, resource logistics and e-business. The institute develops tailored solutions for companies in multiple sectors and participates in projects addressing sustainable logistics and digitalization.
