About European Society for Medical Oncology

The European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to advancing medical oncology and cancer care in Europe and worldwide. Founded in 1975 and headquartered in Lugano, Switzerland, ESMO brings together oncologists, researchers, and allied health professionals to promote evidence-based practice, education, research, and policy. The society is widely recognized for its Clinical Practice Guidelines, which inform standards of care across tumor types.

ESMO organizes the annual ESMO Congress and other thematic meetings that serve as major forums for the presentation of oncology clinical trial results and therapeutic advances. It publishes the journals Annals of Oncology and ESMO Open, and provides continuing medical education, certification, and professional development programs. ESMO also engages in policy and advocacy to improve equitable access to cancer diagnostics and treatments, collaborating with international societies, patient groups, and regulators.
