About enercity

enercity AG is a German municipal utility company headquartered in Hanover. Formerly Stadtwerke Hannover AG, it was renamed in 2018 and is majority-owned by Versorgungs- und Verkehrsgesellschaft Hannover (76%) with the remaining 24% held by Thüga AG. The company supplies electricity, natural gas, district heating, and drinking water, while also operating in renewables including biomass and solar energy.

It partners with EEW on upgrades to a thermal waste-to-energy plant in Hannover-Lahe, aimed at boosting district heating output from 50 MW to up to 85 MW by 2027/2028 through efficiency measures such as steam turbine bypasses, supporting flexible combined heat and power operations.
