Enaex Africa

Enaex Africa (Pty) Ltd is a specialist provider of industrial explosives, initiating systems, and integrated blasting services primarily serving the mining, quarrying, and civil construction sectors across sub-Saharan Africa.

Established on 1 July 2020 as a joint venture, the company combines the explosives business of Sasol with the expertise of Enaex S.A., a Chilean company founded in 1920. Ownership is structured as 51% held by Enaex (via Enaex Africa Holding Pty Ltd), 23% by Sasol South Africa, and 26% by Africa Rising Explosives Ltd (Afris) as the broad-based black economic empowerment partner. It operates as a subsidiary within the global Enaex Group, which ranks among the world's largest explosives companies and is a major producer of industrial ammonium nitrate.

The company manufactures bulk emulsions at its Secunda facility, ANFO and related products at Rustenburg (marketed as Expanfo and Expan™), packaged explosives, and electronic detonators (including DaveyTronic® systems). It delivers end-to-end solutions encompassing blast design, on-site manufacturing and charging, technical services, and digital optimization tools for both opencast and underground operations.

Headquartered in the Johannesburg area (Dunkeld/Sandton), South Africa, Enaex Africa maintains manufacturing sites in Secunda and Rustenburg, regional offices throughout South Africa, and subsidiaries in Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana, and Zambia. It employs over 1,100 people and holds BBBEE Level 2 certification while emphasizing safety, sustainability, and innovation in its operations.

As part of the broader Enaex network, the company strengthens its position as a technology leader in African blasting solutions, supporting major mining projects with reliable supply chains and performance-enhancing products derived from its Chilean heritage in ammonium nitrate production.
