The eLECTRO project is an EU Horizon Europe research and innovation initiative focused on developing an electrified pathway to convert mixed plastic waste into light olefins such as ethylene and propylene. The program integrates advanced waste pre-treatment, electrified pyrolysis, and electrically driven cracking to replace fossil feedstocks and combustion heat with circular feedstocks and renewable electricity.
eLECTRO brings together industrial partners, technology providers, and research organizations to design, build, and validate pilot-scale units, optimize process integration, and assess techno-economic feasibility and life-cycle impacts. The goal is to demonstrate scalable, lower-emission routes for olefin production and provide data and methodologies to support future commercial deployment and compliance with European sustainability objectives in the petrochemical value chain.
