It operates through a three-pillar structure comprising the Future Heritage Fund, focused on long-term international investments in high-rated securities and central bank deposits to preserve wealth for future generations; the Savings Fund, which allocates resources to individual citizen accounts and domestic instruments such as mortgage-backed securities to support welfare and housing; and the Development Fund, directed toward strategic domestic infrastructure, energy, and economic diversification projects aligned with national priorities like Vision 2050.

Headquartered in Ulaanbaatar at Eco International Tower, the fund maintains assets under management exceeding USD 1.6 billion as of recent reports and invests both within Mongolia and abroad while emphasizing transparency, governance improvements, and citizen engagement via digital platforms. It functions as a government-owned entity initially structured as a subsidiary of Erdenes Mongol Group, with ongoing reorganizations integrating mining holdings into a broader corporation model.

In the global context of critical minerals supply chains, the fund positions Mongolia to leverage its resource wealth for sustainable development, intergenerational equity, and international partnerships, distinguishing it as a key public investment vehicle in a resource-dependent economy.

Also known as Chinggis Fund and Чингис Хаан Үндэсний Баялгийн Сан.
