About ChemSec

ChemSec (The International Chemical Secretariat) is an independent, non-profit environmental organization based in Gothenburg, Sweden, founded in 2002. It works to advance the substitution of hazardous chemicals and promote policies and market practices that enable safer, more sustainable chemistry across global value chains.

ChemSec develops publicly available tools and analyses used by regulators, companies, and investors, including the SIN (Substitute It Now) List of hazardous substances, the ChemScore benchmark assessing chemical management and product portfolios of major chemical producers, and resources that highlight safer alternatives. The organization engages with industry and policymakers, provides research and guidance on chemicals of concern and regulatory developments (such as REACH), and facilitates dialogue to increase transparency and accelerate the phase-out of persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic substances.
