Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) is a U.S.-based energy technology company developing tokamak-based fusion power plants using high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology. Founded in 2018 as a spin-out from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, CFS is advancing the SPARC experimental device and the ARC commercial reactor design from its campus in Devens, Massachusetts.
CFS aims to enable compact, grid-scale, carbon-free power. If realized, its technology could provide firm electricity and high-temperature heat relevant to energy-intensive sectors, including chemicals—supporting electrification, low-carbon steam, and hydrogen production.
