CDP Water Security is the water-focused disclosure and scoring program of CDP, a global non-profit that operates environmental reporting systems for companies, cities, and regions. The program provides a standardized platform for organizations to measure and disclose water-related risks, dependencies, impacts, and governance across their operations and supply chains, supporting decision-making by investors, customers, and policymakers.
Participating companies respond to an annual questionnaire. CDP evaluates responses and assigns scores that reflect levels of disclosure, awareness, management, and leadership, with top performers recognized on the Water Security A List. The assessment covers topics such as water withdrawals and consumption, effluent and pollution management, watershed context, target-setting, governance and strategy, risk identification, and supplier engagement.
For water-intensive sectors such as chemicals, CDP Water Security enables benchmarking, investor due diligence, and sustainable procurement by providing comparable, decision-useful information on corporate water stewardship. The program’s datasets help track progress, highlight exposure to water-related risks and opportunities, and encourage improved management practices across value chains.
