Berliner Wasserbetriebe

About BWB

Berliner Wasserbetriebe (BWB) is the municipal water and wastewater utility serving Berlin and parts of the surrounding region. Owned by the State of Berlin, it is one of Germany’s largest providers of drinking water supply and sewerage services, operating waterworks, groundwater well fields, extensive distribution and sewer networks, pumping stations, and wastewater treatment plants for households, businesses, and industry.

BWB produces drinking water primarily from local groundwater and bank filtration, safeguards water resources through catchment protection and monitoring, and manages urban drainage including stormwater. Its wastewater treatment operations include nutrient removal and advanced processes aimed at reducing trace substances, alongside energy and resource recovery from sewage sludge in line with German and EU requirements. The utility focuses on maintaining and modernizing critical infrastructure, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting industrial customers with reliable water services and wastewater handling in the Berlin metropolitan area.
