BioWanze

BioWanze SA/NV is a Belgian bioethanol producer operating a large biorefinery in Wanze (near Huy) in Wallonia. The company is part of CropEnergies AG, the biofuels division of the Südzucker Group.

The plant converts regionally sourced agricultural feedstocks—primarily wheat and sugar syrups from beet processing—into renewable ethanol for blending into transport fuels in Europe. In addition to ethanol, BioWanze supplies co-products such as protein-rich animal feed materials derived from the fermentation process. The site employs modern process technologies and combined heat and power to optimize energy use and reduce emissions intensity relative to conventional fuel production.

Through its integration with local cereal and sugar value chains, BioWanze contributes to the circular use of agricultural resources and supports regional markets for both fuel ethanol and feed co-products.
