Biotika a.s. is a Slovak biotechnology company specializing in the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) through fermentation processes. Founded in 1953 in what was then Czechoslovakia as a penicillin manufacturer, it has over 70 years of experience in biotech production.
Headquartered in Slovenská Ľupča, the company operates five production plants with bioreactors totaling more than 1,500 m³ capacity. Key products include Phenoxymethylpenicillin Potassium (Penicillin V-PNC), a widely used antibiotic, and Polymyxin B Sulfate, produced via a proprietary method. It also manufactures other substances such as Gramicidin S Hydrochloride for contract partners, alongside amino acids, dyes, and food/feed additives for human and veterinary applications.
Biotika provides services including technology transfer from lab to commercial scale and optimization of biotech processes. Its facilities comply with EU GMP and FDA standards, supported by in-house quality control labs and wastewater treatment.
Listed on the Bratislava Stock Exchange since its privatization in 1992, Biotika employs 150-199 people and exports to multiple countries worldwide.
