About Beta Renewables

Beta Renewables is an Italian technology company focused on advanced biofuels, formed in 2011 by the M&G/Chemtex group with investment from TPG. The company develops and licenses PROESA, a process for producing second-generation (cellulosic) ethanol from non-food biomass, and has collaborated closely with enzyme suppliers such as Novozymes.

Its platform converts agricultural residues and dedicated energy crops into bioethanol, with lignin and other coproducts available for energy recovery or material uses. Beta Renewables has provided process technology, engineering support, and licensing for commercial-scale projects, including the reference plant in Crescentino, Italy. The company’s work targets lower-carbon fuels and renewable chemical feedstocks by enabling the use of widely available lignocellulosic feedstocks.
