Bellona Europa is the Brussels-based branch of the Bellona Foundation, an independent international non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in 1986 in Norway. Headquartered in Oslo with offices across Europe, the foundation focuses on science-based environmental advocacy, combating climate change, pollution, and ecosystem degradation.
Bellona Europa promotes solutions-oriented approaches to EU climate policy, emphasizing decarbonization of hard-to-abate industries such as cement, chemicals, steel, and refineries. It advocates for technologies like carbon capture and storage (CCS), clinker substitution, renewable hydrogen, and green procurement standards to reduce industrial emissions. The organization collaborates with industry stakeholders, governments, civil society, and academia to influence policies including the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), and Net-Zero Industry Act.
