BECCS Stockholm

About BECCS

BECCS Stockholm is a bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) project led by Stockholm Exergi at its biomass‑fueled combined heat and power facility in Stockholm, Sweden. The initiative is designed to capture biogenic carbon dioxide from flue gases generated during heat and power production and to permanently store the CO2 in geological formations.

The project integrates carbon capture with Stockholm’s district heating system to maximize energy efficiency, using recovered heat from the capture process. By removing biogenic CO2 from the atmosphere and storing it, BECCS Stockholm aims to deliver durable negative emissions that can support Sweden’s climate targets and provide certified carbon removals for organizations seeking high‑integrity climate mitigation. The project reflects a growing focus on industrial-scale carbon management within the Nordic energy and chemicals value chains.
