Arctial is a Finland-based project company focused on developing low‑carbon primary aluminium production. It was established by Rio Tinto, Mitsubishi Corporation, Vargas, and Finnish Industry Investment Ltd (Tesi) to evaluate and advance industrial-scale aluminium smelting with significantly reduced greenhouse gas emissions, leveraging access to low‑carbon electricity and modern infrastructure.
Currently in a development phase, Arctial concentrates on feasibility work, permitting, and power procurement for a potential greenfield operation. If realized, its production would be aimed at supplying low‑carbon aluminium to European value chains in sectors such as automotive, packaging, and construction.
