Saudi Methanol Company (Ar-Razi) is a petrochemical manufacturer headquartered in Jubail Industrial City in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province. It operates a large-scale methanol production complex using natural gas as feedstock and is recognized as one of the world's largest single-site methanol producers.
The company was established in 1979 as a joint venture. SABIC holds a 75% ownership stake, with the remaining 25% held by Japan Saudi Arabia Methanol Company (JSMC). Its existing facilities have a combined design capacity of approximately 4.05 million tonnes per year across multiple production units, with the newest unit commissioned in 2008.
Ar-Razi focuses on methanol production for use in chemicals, plastics, fuels and other downstream applications. It maintains high operational standards, including energy management certifications, and supports Saudi Arabia's petrochemical exports and industrial development goals under Vision 2030.
In September 2026, the company received Ministry of Energy approval for feedstock allocation to develop a new greenfield 1.8 million tonnes per year methanol plant in Jubail, expanding its portfolio as a key SABIC affiliate in the global methanol market.
