It operates two main businesses: regulated natural gas utilities in the United States and a midstream platform concentrated in Western Canada. The utilities segment distributes natural gas to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. The midstream segment gathers and processes natural gas, extracts and fractionates natural gas liquids (NGLs), provides storage services, and markets liquefied petroleum gases (LPGs).
In the chemical value chain, AltaGas is active in the production, handling, and export of propane and butane, connecting Western Canadian supply to petrochemical and fuel markets in North America and Asia. Its assets include NGL fractionation, storage, rail loading, and a marine export terminal at Ridley Island, British Columbia, supporting bulk liquids logistics and feedstock supply chains.
