Almatis is a global leader in the development, production, and supply of premium specialty alumina and alumina-based products. Tracing its origins to 1910 as the non-metallurgical alumina business of Alcoa, the company was carved out and became independent in 2004.
It offers one of the industry's most comprehensive portfolios, including tabular aluminas, calcined and reactive aluminas, polishing aluminas, calcium aluminate cements, alumina- and magnesia-rich spinels, dispersing aluminas, and specialized products such as Alphabond 300 and ThermaFill. These serve demanding applications in refractories, ceramics, polishing, glass manufacturing, building chemistry, investment casting, metal filtration, and thermal interface materials.
Almatis operates an integrated global network with production sites in Germany (Ludwigshafen), the United States (Arkansas and Pennsylvania), China (Qingdao), India (Falta), and the Netherlands (Rotterdam), supported by research laboratories, sales offices, and technical support across Europe, the Americas, and Asia-Pacific. It maintains a strong emphasis on innovation, consistent quality, and sustainability.
Since September 2015, Almatis has been wholly owned by the OYAK Group, a major Turkish industrial and pension conglomerate. Headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany, with approximately 900 employees, the company holds a leading market position in high-purity specialty aluminas due to its technical expertise and worldwide footprint.
