Climate Summit: 2025

Date: 24 September 2025
Location: New York, United States

The United Nations Climate Summit 2025, also referred to as Climate Summit 2025, was a high-level event convened by UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on 24 September 2025 at UN Headquarters in New York, United States. Held on the margins of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, it served as a platform for nearly 100 countries—including about 40 Heads of State and Government—to announce, commit to finalizing, or outline new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) ahead of COP30.

Key outcomes included announcements from leaders on economy-wide emissions reductions (first-time coverage of all GHGs and sectors by major emitters like China and Nigeria), renewable energy targets (86 NDCs), energy efficiency (72), fossil fuel reductions (64), deforestation efforts (65), and methane cuts (21 from energy). By the summit's end, 125 UNFCCC Parties (79% of global emissions) had submitted or announced updated NDCs incorporating adaptation (83 NDCs). The event featured Solutions Dialogues (22-24 September) on adaptation, finance, forests, energy transition, and more, emphasizing multilateralism, science-based action, and momentum for Paris Agreement goals toward limiting warming to 1.5°C.
