UBE to expand nylon production capacity by 40 thousand tons at its Spain plant, while introducing a new facility to boost compounding activities.

UBE Corporation Europe, a subsidiary of UBE, is investing in additional nylon manufacturing capacity in Castellon, Spain to meet growing global demand for high added-value nylon. The expansion will increase production capacity by 40,000 metric tons, bringing the total to 70,000 annual metric tons. The new facility will utilize UBE's proprietary technology to manufacture various types of polyamides and co-polyamides for applications in sectors such as automotive, food packaging, and engineering. The expansion will also create around 50 new jobs and improve the site's downstream integration, versatility, added value, and sustainability.

Castellon - UBE has announced that it will invest in additional nylon manufacturing capacity at its subsidiary, UBE Corporation Europe of Castellon (Spain), in order to meet growing global demand for high added-value nylon. The expansion will add 40,000 metric tons to the current production capacity, for a total of 70,000 annual metric tons, and it is expected to start operation at the beginning of 2018. A facility for compounding will also be completed at the same site.

The new polyamide plant will utilize the exclusive UBE nylon proprietary technology, and will permit the manufacturing of various types of medium and high viscosity polyamides and co-polyamides for technical applications in different sectors such as the automotive industry, food packaging, the manufacture of industrial monofilaments, fishing nets, engineering components etc. Current and prospective customers will benefit from UBE’s improved global responsiveness to their needs, plus the attention of a dedicated R&D department, established in the Spanish site more than 10 years ago.

The current site of UBE in Castellon will benefit from a higher downstream integration, higher versatility of productions, increase of its added value and improved sustainability. In addition, around 50 new direct qualified jobs will be created, bringing the total workforce of UBE Corporation Europe up to 500, with a 25% increase in the last five years.
