Gasunie expects the Zuidbroek nitrogen plant to be fully operational from October this year, according to new information from main contractor Air Products. The plant will undergo testing and commissioning in the summer after construction work is completed in the spring. The end of cooperation between Air Products and subcontractor Ballast Nedam Industriebouw will not impact Groningen gas production in the 2022/2023 gas year, as existing nitrogen facilities can meet the demand. This is due to lower market demand caused by high prices.

Based on new information from main contractor Air Products, Gasunie expects the Zuidbroek nitrogen plant to be fully operational from October this year. After completion of the construction work this spring, the plant will be tested and commissioned step-by-step in the summer period for safe commissioning.

Last January, Air Products, as the main contractor responsible for the construction of the nitrogen facility in Zuidbroek, informed client Gasunie they ended the cooperation with its subcontractor Ballast Nedam Industriebouw.

The newly created situation will not affect the Groningen gas production in the 2022/2023 gas year. Due to the sharply lower market demand as a result of the high prices, the existing nitrogen facilities can sufficiently meet in the demand for nitrogen.
