Akzo Nobel Industrial Chemicals in Skoghall: Demolition and Remediation

Between 2011 and 2014, Reconsil served as project managers for the decommissioning, demolition, and remediation of Akzo Nobel's closed chemical plants in Skoghall. The project involved recycling steel structures, demolishing buildings with hazardous waste and contaminated material, and handling mercury. Reconsil employed up to seven people and supervised around 50 contractors. After the demolition, Reconsil continued to be responsible for the site's operations, including environmental control and capping of the industrial landfill.

Between 2011 and 2014 Reconsil were the project managers for decommissioning, demolition and remediation at Akzo Nobel’s closed chemical plants in Skoghall. The Site have a more then 90 year old history and production ceased in 2010. A very extensive closure project was initiated and contained several main phases such as recycling of steel structures and demolition of buildings including hazardous waste and contaminated material. Our experience and competence regarding handling of mercury was an important factor for the success of the project. Reconsil employed up to seven people during the project. In addition we supervised approximately 50 contractors. After the demolition, Reconsil have remained operationally responsible for the Site which among other things involve environmental control and capping of industrial landfill.
