Antwerp olefins project by Ineos gets rescheduled

At a glance

INEOS has confirmed its plans to build Project ONE in Antwerp, which is the largest investment in European chemistry in the past 25 years. The company will prioritize the construction of the ethylene production cracker and delay the propylene plant. INEOS is a major consumer of ethylene and propylene, which are essential building blocks in the chemical industry. The ethane cracker being built will be environmentally friendly, with the use of advanced technologies, high efficiency, low CO2 emissions, and reliance on renewable energy. This will reduce the company's carbon footprint and replace ethylene purchased from other regions.

INEOS confirmed today that it is continuing with its plans to build Project ONE in Antwerp, the largest investment in European chemistry in the past 25 years.

INEOS is hereby rescheduling the timing of the construction of the facilities. We are prioritizing the construction of the ethylene production cracker and will realize the propylene plant at a later stage.

INEOS is one of the main consumers of ethylene and propylene since they are the basic building blocks in the chemical industry, indispensable for many products in various applications.

The ethane cracker we are building will be the most environmentally friendly of its kind:

  • Equipped with the best available technologies with the highest efficiency that use of raw materials and energy and a CO2 emission that is less than half of the best performing similar plants in Europe.
  • Designed so that we make maximum use of hydrogen as a fuel and with 100% renewable energy.
  • With this, we replace the ethylene we purchase from other regions with our own production at a CO2 footprint that is substantially lower.
