Vynova's Investment Continues: KOH Conversion on Schedule, NaOH Expansion Declared

At a glance

Vynova Group has confirmed that the construction of its new potassium hydroxide (KOH) membrane electrolysis facility in Tessenderlo, Belgium is on schedule and set to be completed in Q2 2018. The facility will replace the existing mercury cell room and ensure a long-term supply of KOH. Additionally, Vynova plans to expand the sodium hydroxide (NaOH) capacity at the Tessenderlo site, creating additional capacity for chlorine and the production of ethylene dichloride. These investments demonstrate Vynova's commitment to the KOH and NaOH markets.

Vynova Group confirms that the construction of its new state-of-the-art potassium hydroxide (KOH) membrane electrolysis facility in Tessenderlo (Belgium) remains fully on schedule. The project is on track for completion in the second quarter of 2018. The new membrane facility will replace the existing mercury cell room.

“Our new world scale facility will enable us to continue as a reliable partner for our customers and ensure our long-term supply of KOH”, says Vynova President Stefan Sommer.

In addition to the KOH conversion project, Vynova plans to significantly expand the sodium hydroxide (NaOH) capacity at its Tessenderlo site. This expansion will also create additional capacity of chlorine (Cl2), which will be used for the production of ethylene dichloride (EDC). Project completion is expected by early 2019.

Both investments reconfirm the commitment of Vynova, an International Chemical Investors Group (ICIG) company, to the KOH and NaOH markets.

ICIG already owns a successfully converted KOH production facility on the site of Potasse et Produits Chimiques SAS (PPC) in Thann (France). “With the KOH conversion in Tessenderlo, we will further strengthen our leading position as the only membrane producer of KOH with two production sites in Europe”, comments Dr. Achim Riemann, Managing Director of ICIG.
