Expansion of Metsä Fibre's capacity in Äänekoski

Metsä has completed the rebuild of its board machine at the Äänekoski mill in Finland, increasing the mill's capacity by 30,000 t to 240,000 tpy of coated BCTMP board. The machine was rebuilt by Valmet and has a reel width of 3.7 meters, operating at 800 meters per minute. This project is part of a larger investment by Metsä Board, which also included the rebuild of board machines at Simpele and Kyro in 2011, increasing folding boxboard production capacities by 120,000 tpy.

Metsä has finalised the rebuild of the board machine at its Finnish Äänekoski mill, raising the mill’s total capacity by 30,000 t to 240,000 tpy of coated BCTMP board. According to the company, normal production was restarted in early May. Metsä Board’s board machine in Äänekoski was rebuilt by Valmet. The machine has a reel width of 3.7 meters and operates at 800 meters per minute. In total, the machine is some 170 meters long. 

The machine rebuild project at the Äänekoski mill is part of a bigger investment announced by Metsä Board, formerly M-real, back in 2010-2011. Under this programme, Metsä Board has also rebuild board machine at Simpele and Kyro in 2011, increasing folding boxboard production capacities at the two mills by a total of 120,000 tpy.
