Chevron (US) expands in Flanders, Belgium at North Sea Port Ghent.

At a glance

Chevron is planning to expand its production site in Ghent, Belgium, to meet the increasing demand for lubricating oils. The company has submitted a permit application for the construction of a new logistics hall, which will provide additional storage space for additives. The hall will be equipped with solar panels to minimize environmental impact. This expansion is part of Chevron's broader strategy for the Ghent facility, which will include the installation of storage tanks. In 2019, Chevron also opened a dedicated warehouse in Ghent for its lubricating oils.

At its Ghent-based production site, Chevron mainly manufactures lubricating oils for industrial and automotive applications. Significant investments have already been made at the site over the past decade. “Due to the increasing complexity in the lubricants market and the demand for new additional lubricants, another expansion is in order,” comments a company spokesperson.

Additional storage

In the summer of 2021, Chevron submitted a permit application for the construction of a new logistics hall as an expansion of the existing production hall. “The 2,000 m² of extra space is necessary for the storage of additives. To keep the environmental impact as low as possible, the new logistics hall will be equipped with solar panels,” the spokesperson clarifies. Additionally, Chevron emphasizes the project marks the first phase in a broader expansion strategy for the Ghent production facility: “Further expansion will follow, including the installation of storage tanks on our site.”

In 2019, logistics services provider H.Essers also opened a dedicated warehouse at Kluizendok in North Sea Port Ghent for Chevron. The American company made the warehouse its main hub for the lubricating oils produced by its Ghent plant.
